Not doing to bad :-)

Well working my way through the list, but it has been hard as this weekend was 38-39 degrees and Thursday we had our annual pest control and had to take everything out of the cupboards and rewash all the china, platters, dinner service etc after being sprayed for nasty little critters.
4th Work Christmas Party
5th  Friends 50th Birthday
10th Relatives Wedding
12th Friends Wedding
12th Friends 50th Birthday Just couldn't do this one, to tired LOL
15th Last Day at Work
16th Jump on a plane and fly to family for Christmas.

This will probably be my last post at least until the weekend and by then I will have arrived in New Zealand be with my parents and hopefully caught up on some sleep, so until next time Ciao Bella!

Decisions Decisions Decisions

Well this year is heading towards ending on the note of having to make some major decisions in my personal and work life -  In the words of the Clash:
Songwriters: Jones, Mick;Mellor, John

SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO
Darling you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine
I’ll be here ’til the end of time
So you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

Always tease tease tease
You’re happy when I’m on my knees
One day is fine, next day is black
So if you want me off your back
Well come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble
An’ if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know!

This indecision’s bugging me
Esta indecision me molesta
If you don’t want me, set me free
Si no me quieres, librame
Exactly who’m I’m supposed to be
Dime que tengo que ser
Don’t you know which clothes even fit me?
¿sabes que ropas me quedan?
Come on and let me know
Me tienes que decir
Should I cool it or should I blow?
¿me debo ir o quedarme?

Split!
Yo me enfrio o lo sufro

Should I stay or should I go now?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro
Should I stay or should I go now?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro
If I go there will be trouble
Si me voy - va a haber peligro
And if I stay it will be double
Si me quedo es doble
So you gotta let me know
Pero me tienes que decir
Should I cool it or should I go?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro

Should I stay or should I go now?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro
If I go there will be trouble
Si me voy - va a haber peligro
And if I stay it will be double
Si me quedo es doble
So you gotta let me know
Pero me tienes que decir
Should I stay or should I go?

I am normally pretty laid back...........

But .....

I have put Picasso's Rooster in to be framed and it will be ready next Friday, but due to having our work Christmas Party this day I can't pick it up till the Monday. This is the first piece I have ever had professionally framed (well framed at all LOL) I sure hope my mum loves it!

Inspiration

When I got on the computer this morning to check out what my blogger mates had been up to I was in a bit of a funk after finishing Picasso's rooster (picture to come after it has been washed and pressed) but after reading all your fabulous crafting and non crafting blogs I am off to do something that is not just sitting on my butt reading or watching a dvd.  Thank you all for your inspiration on this wonderful Sunday!

I don't have anything new to upload picture wise but found this on my computer, I made this earlier in the year from one of those little kits that you get.

I AM ADDICTED!!

To magazines, I went to do the food shopping this morning and came out with three magazines as well. Maybe it is the shiny christmas covers, but I don't think so! Every time I leave Borders I have a new magazine in hand. Does anyone know of a group for my kind of addiction!!

Bit Of A Catch Up

I just love this time of year, my plants are flowering and this picture doesn't do this one justice.  It was bright pink and huge but only lasted a couple of days, but it was well worth it.

Now remember on my post the other week where I was going to post a picture and recipe of what I made for Melbourne Cup day....TA DA well here it is!!!

These are little bits and pieces on toothpicks.  The recipe came from "Food Network" Magazine and it is so easy.
Chunks of Hot Pepperoni
Marinated Artichoke Hearts
Sun Dried Tomatoes
Fresh Basil Leaves
Slice everything up into bite sized pieces except the Basil Leaves, leave them whole.
Now onto a toothpick put the Basil first then artichoke, then sun dried tomato and ending with the pepperoni, how easy is that and very tasty.
So until later..........Ciao

Yes I Have Been Stitching

Here is a picture of the ornament that I stitched for my partner in the Ornament exchange over at
123 Message Board
I hope she likes it as I have never finished one off this way.....

It is from a JCS ornament issue, I will post all the details tomorrow as I left my notebook at home with all the details.

And here is a picture of Picasso's Rooster, which was a PIF from a member of the 123 message board. This isn't completed but I only have about 3 hours of stitching left.  This is going to be my mums Christmas present - she collects chickens and roosters and has always asked me to do some "fancy work" for her LOL

Whoo Hoo, I have tomorrow off work as it is Melbourne Cup day, even though it isn't a public holiday they should make it one as I don't know anyone who works on this day...well slight exaggeration I do know people that work on Melbourne Cup day.  We are going to be hanging out with friends, having a few drinks, eating some fabulous food and may be having a bet two.  Will fill you in on how I go in the next day or so and will post a copy of the recipe and picture of the finger food that I take with me, brand new recipe but easy peasy!!

The Week That Was

Well first to update my to do list.......

Finish one Halloween Ornament - Have picked out the chart, just need to find the fabric
Have started stitching, ended up using good ole 14 ct LOL

Finish one Christmas Ornament - DONE

Finish page 3 of my mums Christmas Xstitch, then that leaves only 1 page to get done in November - Yeah right LOL - I am about a third of the way through the third page

Clean out bedroom and reorganise, de clutter, evict the dust bunnies etc
DONE

Well what a week, we both got the flu and I ended up having 2 days off work, I was so sick that I didn't get anything done except sleep which was probably the best thing.  I am still not feeling 100% but at least I feel like eating and cooking again (oh and btw didn't lose any weight with not eating LOL)

Have any of you had to call out an electrician on a Sunday, if you haven't keep your fingers crossed that you never have to!! Boy was it expensive over $400 for the hour, and that included a call out fee.  But luckily what happened happened on a Sunday because if it had happened during the week when we were at work we may have had the house burn down, the joys of owning an older home.
Well suppose I had better go start my working week, I will provide another thrilling installment of my life in a few days or next week...............

I am currently on a baking thing, I find Sunday afternoons is the best time for me to get motivated and it provides a lovely treat for after dinner on a Sunday night.
The other Sunday I made a kiwi classic "Ginger Crunch" but while the picture doesn't do it justice it tasted wonderful.

And here is the recipe............................

Ingredients

Directions

1  Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

2  Sift flour, baking powder and ginger together.

3  Mix into creamed mixture.

4  Turn dough out onto a lightly floured board. Knead well.

5.  Press dough into a greased 20x30cm sponge roll tin

6.  Bake at 190C (375F) for 20-25 minutes or until light brown.

7.  When there is about 5 minutes of cooking time left, combine butter, icing sugar,  golden syrup and ginger.

8   Heat until butter is melted, stirring constantly.

9   Pour hot ginger icing over base while hot and cut into squares before it gets cold.

October Already!!

Where has this year gone?  Before you know it it will be CHRISTMAS did that just freak you all out LOL

But I just love October, it is spring and Halloween all at the same time, days are getting lighter and that means a lot when you get up at 5.30am during the week LOL.
I need to find my Halloween decorations and get them out this weekend.  Halloween isn't big here in Australia but the kids in my street always come trick or treating, maybe because they know we are a soft touch for candy.  This actually reminds me that I need to remind my neighbour about Halloween as last year was his first year in our street and he got caught out with the trick or treating, the poor kids had to share a cupcake and 3 lemons LOL

Anyway, I have noticed a lot of fellow stitchers list their goals on their blogs so thought I would give it a go and see how it ends..................

Oh Well

AFL season is over for another year, and my team didn't quite get there, it was a great game but I think finals experience won over.

So now what is going to fill up my weekends you ask.............well I can now concentrate on getting the house tidy, getting back to crafting and waiting for summer to arrive!
We got a small taste of warm weather on Sunday, 26 deg yummo, but then Tuesday didn't even make 14 and this morning it is freezing again, but at least the sun is out.

(picture courtesy of Taste.com.au, as I didn't have my camera handy)

Well I did some baking on Sunday and made a favorite from childhood:

Hokey Pokey Biscuits (makes around 20 biscuits)

125 g butter
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon golden syrup
1 tablespoon milk

1. Preheat your oven to 180 C. Then make sure you grease the oven tray well.

2. Place the butter, sugar, golden syrup and milk in a saucepan. Stir over a low heat until the butter has melted. Increase the heat and continue to stir until the mixture almost bubbles, then remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the mixture to cool.

3.  Sift flour and baking soda into a bowl. Stir the flour into the butter mixture. Mix well.

4. Take a tablespoon of mixture at a time and roll into balls. And place on oven tray

5.  Flatten biscuits slightly with a floured fork. The floured fork helps to prevent the biscuit mixture sticking to the fork. Then bake for 15 - 20 minutes or until golden. When cooked transfer to a wire rack to cool.

But don't be like me and use baking powder instead of baking soda, I wondered why they didn't taste as good LOL

Its Gonna Be A Long Week

Well I don't know how I am gonna survive this week! In case you haven't heard Saint Kilda are in the Grand Final against Geelong (BOO HISS) We haven't won a grand final since 1966, we have played in Grand Finals since then (We wont talk about the one against Adelaide) I bought in my members scarf to work which now sits proudly drapped over my desk, I need to find my Nick Riewoldt poster from the paper last year and put that up somewhere too and I should be set for my working week. So come Saturday at 12.30pm the tv will be on, phone wont be answered, cold beers in the fridge and group of mates, what more can I ask for............................Thats right WINNING THE GRAND FINAL!!!

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Well I realised

That is was just over a week since my last post and figured that even if I have nothing to say or anything to show craft wise I can post a picture. This was taken in Melbourne when I was over there in August 2008.  I just love the colours.

Spring Is Here?

Isn't the 1st of September supposed to be spring for us inhabitants of the southern Hemisphere. Here I am sitting at work (typing this during my lunch break) with the heater on and looking at a windy day, and no doubt when I get home tonight the track pants will be back on with the heater on.

Anyway, the reason for this post is I need to get organised with my crafting so I need to allocate certain days for certain things otherwise I get to involved in one thing and other things get left in the "to do" basket, yes I do have "to do" basket it is nearly over flowing so some sort of order is required or I will be freaking out at Christmas time when someones gift is not finished!! So this is what I have come up with:
Monday - Reading any new craft magazines I have bought, hey a girl needs the chance to add to her "to do" basket LOL
Tuesday - Crochet
Wednesday - Knitting
Thursday - Cross Stitch, and watching Amazing Race!
Friday - Craft Free Night
Saturday - What ever craft I feel like doing
Sunday - Cross Stitch
So lets see how this rotation goes, next I need to organise my WIPs & UFOs (any pointers on this gratefully accepted.)

Some New Finishes

Well I have finally taken some pictures and downloaded them of my latest finishes, no cross stitch but some knitting and crochet ones, they are all going to be christmas gifts.

This is a scarf that I knitted for my mum for Christmas, the colours didn't come out very well, the wool is green with little bits of blue through it with gold thread, I will try and get a better picture. It was just a wide rib of knit 5, purl 5.

This is a dishcloth made from Sugar and Cream cotton, it was super easy to do and the edges have bobbles on them - this will be for a secret Santa exchange later in the year.
The pattern is basically:

Cast on 44 stitches
Knit first row
Cast on 2 stitches, bind off 2 stitches, knit the rest of the row
Then Cast on 2 stitches, bind off 2 stitches knit the rest of the row
And you continue like this until it is the size you want.
Knit last row and bind off
See told you it was simple!!

And this is table runner made with some Christmas themed cotton, I just made this up as I went along LOL

Don't ya just love it.............

When you are lazing around in your pj's on a Sunday morning and people pop in to visit LOL.

Well it is 11am now and still in my pj's, I need to make the effort to go and get dressed, but it is to cold. Also I need to get the chicken in the crockpot for tonights dinner or we wont be eating until late and we can't have that as tomorrow is a work day.
Speaking of work, well last week wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, so hopefully things go along smoothly...........

An update on my cross stitch, if you remember I said I was going to do Picasso's Rooster over one, well I am an idiot, it is just to time consuming and for some reason there is one part that doesn't add up for me so I am going to start again and do it over two. So that is another reason to get off this computer and get my ass into gear LOL.

But before heading off I would like to leave you all with a wonderful picture from New Zealand that we took last November, this is Doubftful Sound, in Fiordland a place I highly recommend that you visit.

What a Couple of Weeks

Well things don't always turn out the way you want. It has been a rough couple of weeks at work and I am emotionally empty :-(

The next couple of months will help me decide if it is time to move on after nearly 14 years........

Thankfully I have tomorrow off, and I will attempt to get all the houseworkie stuff out of the way and then I will have two days to regroup and get myself ready for MONDAY!

I don't think the weather is helping me much I really would like the sun and warmth to return and to top it all off I forgot to get a Lotto ticket for tonights $50M jackpot !!!!

I will post again in a couple of days when my batteries have recharged.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Sunday.....

Wow, I wish every Sunday could be like this but warmer LOL

Put the heater on about 10am and have sat and watched tv and stitched most of the day. I am stitching Picasso's Rooster for my mum for Christmas as she collects chickens and roosters and has been after me to stitch something for her for years. I am doing it over 1 which is something I have never done before and I am actually enjoying it LOL

A chicken is in the crockpot for dinner and just have to put some roast vegies in the oven later. I have just realised that this blog post has a chicken theme to it, I must have been sitting to close to the heater LOL.

Well off to watch the second half of Saints V Crows................GO THE SAINTS!!!

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to me, wow 46 years old. I remember when I used to think my parents were old at 40 LOL

I have got a new CD to listen to (thanks Ma and Pa), it is the Great New Zealand Songbook, so far it is great.

Thank you to my friends for your emails, texts and phone calls, without each and everyone of you I wouldn't even worry about my birthday.

WE DID IT!!!

Well done Saints, we beat those nasty cats LOL.

Watching the game didn't do much for my blood pressure or my language though. It was a great game to watch and well done boys. Keep it up for the rest of the season!

Next Week Is The Big Test!

And we take on Geelong, go Sainters!!!!

A Couple of Small Finishes

Here are a couple of ornaments I have stitched over the last couple of weeks. The Snowman was from a kit that I got send in a swap and "I Believe" is from the JCS 2008 Ornament issue and it is designed by Amy Bruecken. I didn't use the recommended colours but just used some of what was already in my stash. Oh and the Snowman one shows the perils of owning dogs (yes dog hair LOL)

Stitching Update

Well I have stitched some more on Celtic Banner this weekend. The first picture was an April update and the second picture was taken today, I think seeing the progress makes me want to stitch on this piece more.

I am also thinking that I might continue with the border as once this is finished I will have a better perspective on the size of this project.

How Hard......

I never realised that it would be this hard to keep a blog updated. Mind you working full time, doing all the homebody things as well make it pretty hard to get time to myself and with the added bonus of having had someone move in with us and bring their 2 year old child my life is not my own at the moment.
Now don't get me wrong I don't mind helping people out but I am not a kid person, and our house is not set up for kids. This weekend I will be laying down some rules as I find it unfair that when I get home at 5pm I need to suddenly start cooking dinner so that the "baby' can eat and go to bed, hey I'm not the parent here plus I normally don't need to start cooking until about 6-6.30pm.
Oh boy this post has made me sound really selfish, gee dad I guess you were right all those years ago when you called me selfish after I made the decision not to have kids LOL
On a totally different note....HOW BOUT THEM SAINTS!!!!!! Lets see if we can make it 12 in a row against Carlton this Friday night.

On the crafting front, I really have the bug to stitch, knit or do something, I think it is the weather. I did get some more done on Celtic Banner and I will post some pictures hopefully this weekend. Oh yeah and one more thing, how hard can it be to make a fabric yoyo even when you have the plastic thingame to help, well let me tell you......Bloody hard LOL, I had to end up going online and finding a pictorial tutorial to help me, so obviously I am a visual learner not a written instruction learner LOL

The Last Couple Of Weeks

Well I have been to Melbourne, it was great. The above picture was taken in Docklands, it is the side of a building and the silver bit moves in the wind, totally amazing. Of course I spent to much money but isn't that what our Ruddy Money was for LOL
I went to the MCG and watched Carlton flog Collingwood, the crowd was about 85,000 and it was an amazing atmosphere.

But I think my highlight was going to Etihad and watching the Saints take on Essendon, it was a close game, we only won by 19 points but the best bit was that we were only 3 rows from the boundary so I managed to get some great pictures.

Winter has arrived in Perth, and today is overcast and showery. All our mandarins have been blown off the tree, this happened last year also, but they weren't ripe enough to pick so we will have to wait until next year.
With this rainy weather though I will get some stitching done and maybe a bit of reading.

I have bought some yoyo makers off of ebay and hopefully they arrive before next weekend so that I can do something with all my bits and bobs of fabric that I have lying around, and next weekend is a long weekend and the last one until September.

Just Some Ponderings

Well I haven't posted here for awhile as I am busy at work and by the time I get home the last thing I want to do is sit in front of a computer again.
I haven't stitched much on my Celtic Banner either and probably wont for the next couple of weeks as I am off to Melbourne on Thursday and coming home Monday night. I am going over with some girlfriends for eating, drinking, shopping and footy.........just hope the Saints are still on their winning streak and don't get rolled by Essendon (which is the game that I am going to).
The weather here in Perth is still great, the day time temps are around 26-28 degrees, but the mornings are cool. Mind you we aren't supposed to get rain today but there is a few dark clouds around and I thought I heard it sprinkling before, but of course that is typical as I am doing the washing after having a lazy day yesterday.

Bruschetta 'n Cheese-Stuffed Chicken Breasts

I made this for dinner last night and it was great, I just served it with some fried rice that I made with some left over Basmati rice from Saturday night, added some soy and hoisin sauce to the rice along with some vegies.

This recipe would even be great for entertaining as you could dress it up with some "flash" looking side dishes.

As I am in Australia I didn't have all the brand name ingredients so I just substituted with local brands.

What You Need!

1 can (14-1/2 oz.) Italian-style diced tomatoes, undrained
1-1/4 cups KRAFT Shredded Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese, divided
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
1 pkg. (6 oz.) STOVE TOP Stuffing Mix for Chicken
8 small boneless skinless chicken breast halves (2 lb.)
1/3 cup KRAFT Roasted Red Pepper Italian with Parmesan Dressing

Make It!

HEAT oven to 350ºF.

MIX tomatoes, 1/2 cup cheese and basil in medium bowl. Add stuffing mix; stir just until moistened.

PLACE 2 chicken breasts in large freezer-weight resealable plastic bag. Pound with meat mallet or side of heavy can until chicken is 1/4 inch thick. Remove from bag; place, top-sides down, on cutting board. Repeat with remaining chicken. Spread chicken with stuffing mixture. Starting at 1 narrow end, tightly roll up each breast. Place, seam-sides down, in 13x9-inch baking dish. Drizzle with dressing.

BAKE 40 min. or until chicken is done (165°F). Sprinkle with remaining cheese; bake 5 min. or until melted.

Or here is the link to the Kraft food site that I got it from.

What A Waste Of A Weekend

Well Friday night I didn't get anything achieved and Saturday morning got up early with all intentions of getting everything done in the AM, but a friend of SO's called in and put us an hour behind, so didn't end up getting home till after 12 and by then footy was on the TV and that put paid to the rest of the day grrrrrr.

Sunday was a lovely day but I am rereading the Harry Potter books and got sucked into reading most of the day, so didn't get any stitching done at all so I am a bit pi**ed off about that.

But today is a public holiday in Perth so I am going to quickly run the vacum cleaner around, clean the bathroom and hopefully then sit down and get some stitching done on my UFO (posting my progress here is certainly an incentive). So fingers crossed.

On a totally different subject.......GO THE SAINTS, whoo hoo 5 in a row. I am off to see them play in Melbourne in a couple of weeks so I hope I don't put the mocker on them :-)

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Stitching Update

Well I managed to get some stitching done on my UFO last weekend, not much, but when I started stitching on this piece again it felt great.
We have a 3 day weekend again this weekend so hopefully if I get my housework done Friday night, groceries Saturday morning I can get some more done on it.

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Well I have joined a group to finish up my cross stitching UFO's (unfinished ??) not sure what the "O" stands for, I must find out LOL.
I have decided to finish off one at a time and this is the first one..............I have had it lying around for about 6 years now and it will be fabulous when it is finished.

I don't get much time for stitching but I have promised myself to at least get a couple of hours in evey weekend.
